When do we need a lawyer?

Many types of a legal issues demand the help of a lawyer. We need a lawyer when we have bodily damage, are illegally fired from work, are planning to start a business, or are accused in a crime. When legal problems appear, lawyers can help right after they arise – after a vehicular accident, for example – but sometimes a lawyer's advice before a legal issue arises will help you to avoid or defeat some serious problems.

Some common situations where a lawyer's skills may be needed are:

* an accident caused bodily injury or property damage
* divorce or child custody cases
* estate or business purchase/sale
* discrimination or disputes at work
* registration of a company
* making-out a trust, will or an estate plan
* debt problems
* police investigation or an arrest

A lawyer will estimate if your legal issue worth handling. If the possibility of your prevailing is low, or the award of legal action is less than expenses, there will be no need to spend your time and money. In case legal action is needed, the lawyer will appraise your situation in detail with you, shed light on what to expect from the current legal issue, and will look for your legal rights to be protected and fully assessed. He'll do this by studying the law, witness questioning, legal strategizing, accumulating case material, completing paperwork, consulting with experts, and by being in discussions with insurers and opposing counsel to get the best advantage for your legal issue.

The above situations must be assisted by experienced lawyers. But, in the less important cases, self representation will be enough. Minor legal disputes may be worked out by negotiating or in "small claims" court if the dispute is estimated less than a specified sum. Do not forget to check out for applicable "small claims" limitations.
